Gili Laba Hilltop Panorama

Komodo National Park (KNP) is an archipelago located in the waters between Sumbawa and Flores islands. Some of these islands are the native habitats of komodo dragons . The beauty of the islands must be maintained and be under the supervision of the Indonesian government . Although many of these small islands were uninhabited, they store magnificent beauty attracting many tourists to visit.  One of them is Gili Laba. This small island is located about less than an hour from Komodo island. It takes much longer (about 4 hours by boat) from Labuan Bajo. Gili Laba is administratively included in the teritory of West Nusa Tenggara because it is closer to Sumbawa island.

Gili Laba island has been very popular as a tourist destination in the Komodo National Park. Many travel agents in Bali, Labuan Bajo and Lombok always include this island in one of their tour packages. On the way to Komodo island from either Labuan Bajo or Sumbawa and Lombok, ships always stop in Gili Laba and other islands in the area beacuse they are considered attractive and keep the tourism potential. This small uninhabited island started to attract the attention of tourists who come to Komodo island. The natural panorama of Flores sea from the top of Gili Laba hill is unparalleled. The stretch of white sand beaches and the views of sea water with its wonderful degradation makes you hard to leave it. The entire island is dominated by savanna hills which are green during the rainy season and turning yellow in the dry season. Anyone who comes here will certainly enjoy the whole panorama of nature presented.

The sea provokes you to swim and snorkel, the beach with its quite strong breeze from Flores sea attracts you to sunbathe. There are no predatory animals here, only birds and some small insects. So do not worry. You can trek up to the top of the hill after or before you enjoy snorkeling and the beauty of the sea. You need to be mentally and physically strong enough to get to the top of the hill because because the climbing trek is quite slopy up to 70 degrees.

It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to reach the top of the hill. Sometimes strong winds can dicourage us, but do not worry. Before you start climbing, it would be better if you find a stick at the beach that you can use to help you when climbing. All your hard efforts and tiredness will be payed off once you reach the top. Most visitors find it hard to describe the beauty of the panorama from the top of Gili Laba. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the greatness of the God's painting.

Because the wind is very strong at the top, try not to make uneccessary movements. Otherwise you will fall or roll down. Being there for 20 to 30 minutes is enough. To get down to the beach is not much easier. You need to be carefull. It usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes to get back to the beach.

Gili Laba has become a favorite spot for tourists even though it takes about 4 hours to get there. Because the weather is unpredictable, early in the morning is the best time to start sailing from Labuan Bajo and 02:00 p.m. is the right time to sail back to Labuan Bajo. (Komodo.tours Team)
