Komodo Island Indonesia

Komodo Island is an island located in Nusa Tenggara islands . Komodo Island is known as the natural habitat of komodo dragons . This island is in the area of Komodo National Park which is managed by the Indonesian Government . Komodo Island is siyuated east of Sumbawa Island, separated by the Strait of Sape.

Administratively , this island is inncluded in the District of Komodo , West Manggarai Regency , East Nusa Tenggara Province , Indonesia. Komodo Island is the westernmost tip of East Nusa Tenggara Province, bordering the Province of West Nusa Tenggara .

Komodo dragons live and breed well on Komodo, Rinca and Mota islands. Until August 2009, there lived about 1,300 in Komodo island and about the same number on Rinca and Mota islands and about 100 in Wae Wuul on the mainland of Flores.

In addition to the dragons, Komodo Island also has a variety of exotic flora. Sepang wood is used by local people as medicine and clothing dye. Nitak tree or sterculia oblongata is used as medicine and the seeds are tasty and delicious like peas.

On the south side of East Nusa Tenggara Province In 1910, this island is named “komodo” by the Dutch government. The story began when Lieutenant Steyn van Hens Broek tried to prove the report given by the Dutch troops that they had found a large animal resembling a dragon on the island. Steyn then killed a dragon and brought the documentation to the Museum and Botanical Garden in Bogor to be investigated.
In 2009, the Park was a finalist of the "New Seven Wonders of Nature" announced in 2010 by online voting at www.N7W.com. On 11 November 2011, the New 7 Wonders announced the provisional winners and Komodo National Park entered into the ranks of the winners along with Amazon, Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Jeju Island, Puerto Princesa Underground River and Table Mountain.
